New York City Department Of Education Tells Teachers To Use Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Teams And Bans Zoom Over Security Issues

    New York City Department of Education recommends Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Teams to teachers because of enhanced security controls and privacy. It has banned the use of Zoom in schools over the hijacking of video conferencing and security issues.

    Go-to-video conferencing app

    Microsoft is putting is efforts to make its Teams a Go-to-video conferencing app. According to a blog post of Corporate Vice President of Microsoft 365, Jared Spataro highlighted how its security controls and Teams privacy prevents zoombombing. He also tells how the company handles the law enforcement requests, and how the data is encrypted in Teams to ensure privacy and prevent data theft.

    More secure and private virtual conversations

    According to Spataro, people need secure and private virtual conversations. Exactly, the Teams of Microsoft ensures privacy and security for all of its users. The company will never compromise on the security and privacy parts and deletes the data automatically at the end of the subscription or on terminating the access. It will never track the user’s conversations or data. Microsoft never targets the users with ads during Teams Video conferencing.

    Microsoft restricts unauthorized access to your data. Even when responding to government requests, the company carefully defines the requirements. Spataro said the company encrypts the data at rest and in transit in Teams. The data is stored in a secure network of data centers. It uses SRTP (Secure Real-time Transport Protocol) for audio, video, and desktop sharing.

    Microsoft worries over zoom gaining popularity

    According to Verge, Microsoft sees zoom as an emerging threat. The leaked video by Microsoft in March 2020, the zoom is eyeing the users, who are facing difficulty with their conference solution mainly Skype for Business.

    Zoom has gained 200 million daily conference participants as of last week from just 10 million active users monthly before the outbreak of coronavirus. However, the zoom is facing troubles in recent weeks because of issues like zoombombing or video conference hijacking, and security issues. New York City Department of Education has banned the use of zoom and recommended to use Microsoft Teams.

    Access Now Requests transparency report

    Access Now, the rights group, has requested zoom for transparency report. The company is working on security and privacy issues and begins to work on the transparency report.
