Potential Impacts On Groundwater And Surface Water:

Presently, Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) and a self-regulating contractor are developing response to comments on Draft EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) that was published in the month of October, 2013, followed by the issuance of Draft HROP in the month of December, 2012. The potential impact related to groundwater and surface water is the prime item which is under review.

Improvement Measures Discussed With MDEQ:

The operator of the project, Butte Highlands JV, LLC has proposed monitoring of additional water at the strategic regions as a warning for the potential impact of surface water and ground water. Additionally, improvement measures have been developed in discussion with Montana Department of Environmental Quality as well as in the consideration of the interest of City and County of Butte-Silver Bow.

Appointment Of EIS Coordinator:

Montana Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) appointed an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) coordinator in the first quarter of this year, as part of the process. The MDEQ’s schedule meant for the release of the Final Environmental Impact Statement as well as Final Hard Rock Operating Permit entirely depends on the conclusion of the evaluation of MDEQ.

The U.S. Forest Service directs the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, which carry on evaluating comments and develop response to Draft EA (Environmental Assessment) that was published on March 2014.
