Boston, MA 08/13/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE:RAD) on August 12, 2014 announced that the company’s pharmacies are offering seasonal flu shots across the nation. RAD announced that the customers are now free to visit any pharmacy of Ride Aid and receive the flu shots from pharmacist, with a few state regulations restrictions. All the flu shots are included in most of the insurance plans, which also includes Medicare Part B.
Statement from Rite Aid
The executive vice president, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Robert I. Thompson said that it is important to get the flu shots immediately after its availability so as to protect oneself as well as others from flu. He added that the Rite Aid pharmacy was all geared up for providing flu shots as a part of company’s commitment towards health services. Rite Aid also said that it promoted and encouraged the use of these shots by each and every person so as to get immunity through vaccination immediately.
Protection against Three Strains of Flu
The general trivalent flu vaccine will provide protection to the users against three main strains of flu and these include the H1N1 virus, influenza A H3N2 virus and influenza B virus. Apart from this, the company is also offering quadrivalent flu vaccine which will help in getting protection against additional influenza B virus.
At present, the Rite Aid Pharmacies are offering supplies of quadrivalent and trivalent flu vaccines along with higher dose of flu shot, which is approved, as of now, only for people at the age of 65 years or above. These shall be available from mid-to-late August.
Recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in the meanwhile, also recommends that people should seek flu vaccination every six months for around two weeks, immediately after its availability.
