The Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) is all set to woo the lower end of the market with its new Q5 mobile phone. The low cost handset, based on the BB10 platform, is expected to hit the markets by the beginning of July.
Blackberry’s Lower end smart phone
The new smart phone unveiled by Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) supports both QWERTY keypad and multi capacitive touch screen. The mobile phone provides the user with an expandable memory up to 8GB. The low cost smart phone is coupled with 1.2 GHz dual core processor and 5 MP camera.
Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) had been successful in effectively gaining the market share in emerging economies like that of India and Latin American regions. This growing popularity had encouraged the company to extend its BB10 platform based smart phone to tap the lower end of the market segment in those countries.
Regain the lost market share
The new device is expected to cost much less than the previous versions of the device, such as Z10 and Q10 which were priced around $200. Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) is thus all set to meet the fierce competition from other Android operating systems based smart phones.
This new low cost device would thus target to grab the market share across different age groups and income groups of emerging countries, which were earlier lost by Research in Motion Ltd. (NASDAQ:BBRY) to the smart phones of Samsung and Apple’s iPhones.
