Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:MSFT) recently unveiled cloud-based data analytics tools Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Purview, focusing on enterprise data storage. The tools aim to give customers analytics power over data anywhere in the organization to free manpower to focus on data infrastructure management.
Microsoft’s new tools driving cloud adoption
Azure purview is a governance tool that addresses software as software data. On the other hand, Azure Synapse Analytics is a SQL data storage tool enhanced with analytical capabilities. With Azure Synapse, the company offers clients limitless data storage and analytics, simplifying and connecting different data sources so the organization can achieve more utility out of its data.
These next-generation tools are driving Microsoft Azure cloud growth. Since its launch in 2019, Azure Synapse has resulted in the number of cloud clients running petabyte-scale workloads increase fivefold. This includes the collaboration with FedEx, which Microsoft is helping build FedEx Surround. This is a new platform that uses Azure Synapse, which helps digitize supply chains and manage data and track inventory in real-time. FedEx scans around 16 million packages daily, which generate a lot of information vital in logistics intelligence. Other companies employing Aure Synapse include ABN Amro Bank NC, Wolters Kluwe NV, and Procter & Gamble Co.
Microsoft taking on cloud rivals
The new products are taking on cloud-based data warehouse Snowflake Inc. (NYSE:SNOW) and Amazon.com Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Amazon Web Services. Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, stated that currently, data generation is quicker than organizations can understand the data. As a result, Microsoft is looking to leverage this opportunity to explore its governance and analytical tools’ feasibility.
Most importantly, Azure Purview is data governance and analytical tool working effectively with third party compliance and security features. The tool can help companies managed data compliance needs as well as data security. Most companies generate data stored externally and internally and sometimes ignored because organizations don’t have tools to treat the data as an asset. Azure Purview will help businesses achieve data security, governance, and compliance.
