International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) Unveils Watson, Targets Medical Care Solutions

International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) has housed a research project for studying medicine holistically at its R&D unit located in Haifa. Launched under the name of Watson cognitive computing, the platform is ready for handling cognitive analytics. The Israel facility caters to the skills of natural language processing abilities, implementing them on real-life applications.

Watson Based Solutions

At an apt juncture, International Business Machines Corp. (NYSE:IBM) announced the holistic launch of the esteemed Watson Health Cloud that provides a resourceful open platform to insurers, companies, physicians and researchers who are focused towards rendering wellness or health solutions.

A new unit has come up so as to monitor and administer big data applications, under Watson Health Cloud, where the intelligent analysis of medical data shall be carried out. Way back in 2011, supercomputer manufactured by IBM, Watson, has shown capabilities for finance, healthcare and customer services. The supercomputer is inept at providing apt solutions; in addition it provides detailed analytics to a widespread customer base that pans out across healthcare and financial sectors.

Modules Add Significant Values

The cloud-based interface comprises 13 modules that help developers showcase integrated technology into customer services and applications. There are instances of concept expansion and user modeling amongst others. Dr. Aya Soffer, the person-in-charge as the Director of the analytics wing of big data solutions at the Israel facility, commented that the researchers at Hafia have added significant value to the platform.

Watson has developed into an adjunct solution for recommendations and medical data. Insightful updates on a myriad of issues are now made easy, as doctors can now make informed decisions.

A Platform, Well Recognized

The platform has been used prior, quite extensively for dealing in oncology issues. Many clinics including Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Anderson Cancer Center and centers for genetic research have actively catered to Watson’s technology savvy innovation for analyzing, preventing and curing illnesses.

There is a collection of SDKs and APIs available for Watson that IBM may pop into applications. Soffer says that Watson is a convergence of big data technology and gen-next technology.
