Boston, MA 09/16/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Barrick Gold Corporation (USA) (NYSE:ABX) reported that it has appointed deal adviser, Kevin Thomson as its senior vice president.
Thomson is a well-known lawyer, based out of Canada, who is to join Barrick’s strategy team from next month. Barrick Gold Corporation (USA) (NYSE:ABX) has decided to hire Thomson to advice on the company’s strategic matters. The appointment is a recent move by the company’s Executive Chairman, John Thornton, who has named him as one of the several new executive names, as per an article published by Reuters today. Barrick had appointed Thornton as its executive chairman in April and since then, he has restructured the company’s corporate team.
Barrick Gold Corporation (USA) (NYSE:ABX)’s relationship with Thomson dates back to 1995, as he has been advising the company since then. Thomson has also been in charge of several important transactions on behalf of the Toronto-based company. He acted on behalf of the miner when it had made a hostile bid of as much as $10 billion to acquire competitor Placer Dome in the year 2005. The acquisition had made the company the largest gold miner of the world, in terms of production.
Thomson is to commence duties at the new company from October 14. He presently serves at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, in the capacity of a Senior Partner. His previous company was a law firm in Toronto that specialized in acquisitions and mergers, Barrick wrote in an e-mail.
The Barrick Gold Corporation (USA) (NYSE:ABX)’s spokesman, Andy Lloyd, also detailed Thomson’s new roles in the e-mail. According to the e-mail, he will be engaged with the issues related to strategic developments in the company. The activities included dealing with strategic legal matters and encouragement of partnerships with suppliers, investors, and other business associates. Apart from this, his duties also demand him to manage complex negotiations, as well as development of strategies in corporate issues and also their governance.
